Meet Our Remote Student Scholarship Winner!
While we all take a victory lap for surviving 2020, many students are still dealing with the fallout from COVID-19. The pandemic has made access to internet service and remote learning tools more important than ever. That’s why HighSpeedOptions dedicated its first-ever scholarship to a student navigating remote education.
Remote Learning Experience
Running for three months, we asked students to submit a 250-word essay on how internet tools have helped with distance learning.
Of those entries, HighSpeedOptions picked one winner to receive a $500 Visa gift card for the best essay.
Meet the Winner
After reviewing over 200 submissions, we’re thrilled to congratulate Sara Lyons for winning our HighSpeedOptions $500 Remote Student Scholarship!
In her essay, Sara explains how her “chosen careers of theater and tourism, both of which have historically been dependent on in-person interaction…(made her) skeptical” of remote learning. Yet, despite the obvious challenges someone in her position might face, Sara says her experience was extremely valuable.
Internet tools like Blackboard, Google Suite, and Zoom helped keep Sara connected while remote. For someone meant for tourism, that's saying a lot.
“Pre-pandemic, I could never picture myself happy as a remote learner. Now, I can’t imagine what my life would be like without this experience. Online tools...have made the whole experience worthwhile for me.”
As Sara continues her education, she says her prize will cover all textbook expenses for the rest of her degree.
We know who to contact once booking a vacation is a thing again!
